During suitable weather, the hens spend considerable time outside the shelter, searching for their own grub versus the ready-made-feed provided indoors. But even in the rain, the hens may spend some time checking out the possible menus for lunch. By mid-morning most of the hens have returned to the sheltered nesting and roosting area to lay the eggs. The eggs are laid in roll-a-way nests and gathered by hand. These eggs are carried to cool storage areas until collected by a truck to take them to a grading and packing plant.
